Impact Matters

Secured a trial verdict for Bill Ackman’s charitable foundation

For Pershing Square Foundation, Tyler was a member of the trial team in a multimillion-dollar case involving withheld insurance coverage due to one of its biggest assets. Following a three-week trial, with Ackman as the star witness, the team secured a favorable jury verdict awarding the charity millions of dollars it was due. The verdict ultimately led to a highly favorable settlement, including the recovery of attorneys’ fees.

Fought against systemic racism

For the largest Black-owned asset manager in the State of New Jersey, Tyler played a role in a historic civil rights and RICO action against New Jersey’s Division of Investment, BlackRock, Owl Rock, and other major financial firms challenging the systemic racism in New Jersey’s selection and allocation of capital to outside asset managers and corrupt “pay-to-play” scheme that excluded minority- and female-owned firms in favor of the “old white boy” Wall Street firms.

Defended a major utility from dozens of wildfire-related lawsuits

For PG&E, Tyler contributed to the defense of many lawsuits filed in California state courts relating to the 2019 Kincade Fire, 2020 Zogg Fire, and 2021 Dixie Fire.

Helped secure a $410 million trial award in M&A litigation

Tyler represented The Williams Companies in litigation connected to a planned $37.7 billion merger with Energy Transfer Equity, which was ultimately terminated. After a six‑day trial, the court awarded Williams a $410 million contractual termination fee, plus interest and attorneys’ fees.

Defended Blue Cross Blue Shield Association in a major antitrust MDL

Tyler represented BCBS and various member plans in consolidated multidistrict antitrust class action litigation alleging that the Association and its members have used the Association’s agreements to fix prices and limit competition. The decade-long litigation became the subject of a $2.8 billion settlement.
